Would blow drying my hair after applying rogaine affect results?

It may sound like a stupid question but I just want to make sure that by doing this it won't affect the effectiveness of the medication. The directions say to let it dry completely and it may take a couple of hours. I can't wait around for it to dry naturely.

Long-term treatment with finasteride 1 mg decreases the likelihood of developing further visible hair loss in men with androgenetic alopecia (male pattern hair loss).

There are no reports on the effects of pharmacologic treatment on the likelihood of developing further visible hair loss in men with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Our objectives were to examine whether finasteride 1 mg treatment decreases the likelihood of developing further visible hair loss in men with AGA.

We conducted an analysis of global photographic assessment data from two Phase III trials in which 1553 men with AGA received finasteride 1 mg/day or placebo for up to 5 years. Finasteride 1 mg treatment led to a 93% decrease relative to placebo in the 5-year likelihood of developing further visible hair loss (95% CI: 89-97%; p < 0.001).

We conclude that, in men with AGA, treatment with finasteride 1 mg/day over 5 years led to a marked and sustained decrease in the likelihood of developing further visible hair loss.

Hi My name is David , I'm 22 and looking to book & undergo a HT in AlviArmani. I have a receding hairline and thinning on the crown, Its not major but its Annoying me and stopping me from doing a lot in life. My family on both sides is not known for major baldness etc. Questions might come across as a bit silly but please take time to answer, Thanks.

1.Does Propecia only work to help prevent future baldness? Does it not improve thickness ?

Hey guys,

I just had my procedure at the Toronto clinic this week. Which went really well by the way. Besides his extensive technical expertise and his great professional team, Dr Armani is a warm and caring person. His in-dept knowledge of HT issues coupled with his excellent artistic taste result in excellent hairline design and great density. I will post a few pics in a couple of days.

Since I had to stay in Toronto for 7 days before being allowed to flight back to Europe and that I did not want to get stucked in a small hotel room for all that time, I decided to look for other accommodation options. Are you familiar with the web site www.airbnb.com ? Basically, you rent fully equipped flats/studios rather then staying in a hotel room. I have found this great condo (sitting-room, open kitchen, sleeping room, bathroom and den) at the 48th floor of a modern tower overlooking lake Ontario for just USD 95 a night, at about 10 minutes walk to the Armani Clinic, 5 minutes with the cable car or by taxi (they charge about 8 USD for a taxi ride). The walk to the clinic is along the lake shore and it really enjoyable. I only took a taxi ride to return to the condo after the procedure and walked back and fort the rest of the time. The owner of the flat, Lilly (who moves in with her boyfriend when she sub-lets the condo) is absolutely great. I told her I was undertaking a HT procedure and she lent me tons of DVDs. She called regularly to ask if I needed some food since I did not want to get outside during my swelling period and she even brought me a small hand mirror when I realized that I had forgotten mine (to apply the fucidin cream at the back of the donor area). There is a supermaket in front of the tower with traiteur service. The condo is beautifuly furnished and has all the convenience.

I have been using propecia for the last two years and my hairloss has really slowed down but i have been noticing lately that when i get out of the shower and when i wake up in the morning there is still alot of hair falling out in my hands and on my pillow.

Has any one experienced this before?

Should i take a higher dose or should i switch meds?

I am nervouse because if i am getting use to these meds already when i am only 24 what am i going to do when i am 35?

Any advice?

There's no escaping meds in my opinion. Even 9 out 10 hair transplant patients get on or continue using meds as a must.

I'll go first...

I use Dutasteride 0.5mg daily (sometimes skips a day in a week)

Nizoral 2% shampoo every other day

minoxidil 2x daily

I have had some regrowth and thickening. Its only been 3 months and it will get better from there. I went through a shed already and going through a minor one right now. The odd part is for the first time ever my donor hair in the back seems to be shedding a lot lately. So far my hairloss has come to a halt, some regrwoth and thickening, and look forward to the real results in the next few months.;)

Finasteride, what is it and how does it prevent hairloss

I thouight this would be useful for new board members researching a way to stop hairloss. I have been taking Proscar for 4 years and it has worked for me.

Finasteride (Propecia/Proscar)

There is little that men can do to stop from losing their hair, but there are some hair loss treatment options that may restore some hair loss.

Currently there are only two hair loss drugs that actually work. They have been clinically proven to have a real degree of effectiveness. These two medications, Propecia and Rogaine, are also the only two drugs that are approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of hair loss

Finasteride is a medication that prevents the conversion of testosterone to its more active form, DHT (dihydrotestosterone) by inhibiting an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase type II in the scalp hair follicles. Lower levels of DHT in the scalp can slow down or prevent hair loss. However, because finasteride does not completely block this conversion, it will not complete arrest hair loss.

What evidence do we have that finasteride (Propecia/Proscar) works?
Finasteride has been tested extensively all around the world by scientists and doctors in large clinical trials and was found to be very effective in treating male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). At the end of 2 years after commencing finasteride, it was found that 99% of men retained all the hair they had when they first started treatment, while those on placebo (sugar tablets) lost their hair with the balding process. Moreover, 48% of men who was on finasteride actually had more hair at the end of the first year after commencing treatment. At the end of 2 years, 66% had more hair than when they first commenced treatment.

What should I expect to see while on finasteride (Propecia/Proscar) treatment?
The main aim of treatment is to stop you becoming bald. Finasteride arrests hair loss and helps you keep the hair that you have left. In other words, if you do not take finasteride, you would expect to lose more hair over the years. Some men have reduced body hair growth while on higher doses of finasteride.

It is important to manage expectations with finasteride treatment as the main aim is to slow or stop the progression of hair loss rather than expecting hair regrowth. Any regrowth is considered a bonus. Some men actually experience some hair regrowth as early as 4 months after commencing treatment but it usually takes up to 2 years before any regrowth is noticed. Even so, only a third of men on finasteride will actually grow enough hair for their family and friends to notice the difference.

For men who start to go bald in their late teens and early twenties, finasteride is a desirable treatment for many to delay the process as long as possible until their thirties or fourties when they do not mind the prospect of becoming bald after establishing their careers and family lives.

Why am I losing more hair now when I have just started finasteride (Propecia/Proscar)?
On the balding scalp, there are many hairs sitting in the dormant or resting phase on the scalp. Sometimes, finasteride can cause rapid reactivation of the hair follicles to produce new hairs causing the old hairs to be pushed out all at once, so you notice more hair shedding. This is not a serious cause for concern if it happens, and should settle within 6 months. This is an indication that finasteride is having an effect on your hair follicles and "reawakening" them.

What happens if I stop taking finasteride (Propecia/Proscar)?
Once you stop the medication, you will continue to lose your hair and the balding process will take over once again at the same rate had you never have taken finasteride. Finasteride helps to delay this outcome as long as you continue taking this medication.

Propecia vs Adovart

I am currently taking proscar but I am considering transferring to Adovart, could you please also give me advice on the best option. I really am unsure, the only real difference is Adovart’s half life I think, but that it dramatically reduces DHT by over 90% compared to proscar at 70%, will there be a benefit to transferring?

I take half a tablet of proscar a day along with using the rogaine foam twice a day in the morning and evening. I am still losing a little hair possible about 40 or a little more a day, but they are normal size hairs, so there is still some coming out.

Came you please give me the much appreciated advice, and along with your recommendations and possible advances in hair loss research.
