Alot will depend on how thick your hair is. Obviously if you have very thin hair at the back then you well have less to donate to the front etc. I think the estimate as to how much hair on average is available to donate is around 13k. As the other poster mentioned alot will depend on the survival rate of the grafted area of each transplant.

I have seen some people get more then 8,000. I saw one guy with 10,000 plus.

8,000 sounds reasonable, but also depends on the texture of your hair.

I have thought about this before too. I always thought that if the person was the same blood type or was a universal blood donor, that your body wouldn't reject it.

Unfortunatly this would not work. The folicals from another person would be seen as foreign and rejected by the human body.

now this may be a weird question, but what if you took somebody elses donor and put it on my head? for example, like my brother (who got lucky and is never going to go bald). He does not care if he goes bald and always said "if I could give you my hair i would" ...I'm assuming that it's not possible since your body would not be familiar with that hair?

If Dr Armani breaks through with multiplication then we would all have an infinate donor supply.. fingers crossed the final total cure is not too far away!!

The average person has around 8,000 grafts available. Assuming this is someone who has not had any pior procedures and has average donor.

Some people can get 10,000 or more if they have thicker donor. Some people get slightly less then 8,000 if they have thinner donor.

Everyone varies to a certain extent.

Thanks for that reply. I too have been curious about a person possibly running out of donor hair. The chart that you posted which Dr. Armani uses to cover an individuals head, does it vary regarding density of one's donor hair? Or is that pretty much the standard formula which he uses. I'm asking this because I had 4000 FUE's done in the frontal area.

Hi Baldmusician,

Take someone who has never had a procedure before, he has average donor and Dr. Armani asses that he can harvest 8,000 grafts from this patient's donor area over time. The patient needs coverage from front to back, here is how it would be managed roughly:

Here is what is recomended to the patient

Zone - 1: 2500 follicular units at 80% density
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Zone - 2: 2000 follicular units at 40% density
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Zone - 3: 1240 follicular units at 30% density
--------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Zone - 4: 2030 follicular units at 20% density
-----------------------------------------------------
Total grafts 7,770

This strategy gives a high density front with a full dense hairline with many styling options and a lower density crown with great coverage.

Now, please check out a live example of the scenario I posted above. The patient below needed full coverage from hairline to back, zones 1, 2, 3 and 4. He has had 5,500 grafts to restore his entire head of hair, and he still has 2,500 grafts left to thicken his crown if he so chooses.

Yeah, donor hair is valuable, we only have about 8,000 - 10,000 available, so you want to make sure you go to a doc who maximizes it. If you go to a doc that butches you and you get no gorwth then not only do you look disfigured but there is less a good doc can do for you in the future.

Generally, for someone who is going to be totally bald from front to back it would take 6,000 - 8,000 grafts to totally covered everything. Most people have enough donor hair for this as long as they get good growth from all their procedures.

If you go to a hack and he wastes 2,000 grafts then you might be cutting it close.

I'm not near the full balding stage yet, but if and when i get there, willl i have enough donor hair to finish the whole top of my head.
