It’s vital that anyone considering a HT understand that they are not going to get the full result until 12-18 months. I think everyone needs to be made aware that even after a whole year there is still a great deal more in store - more growth, thickening and maturing.
The important thing to remember is everyone grows at different rates. If you have chosen a top doctor and followed the post op instructions to the best of your ability, then the growth will come.
I see lots of patients who panic on these forums just a few months out from their procedure. Never mind 3 and 4 months, which for some reason seems to be the bench mark for the day you wake up and the final result is in.
At months 3, 4 and 5 you have just begun growing!
Months 8-16 are just as important in terms of growth, maturing, thickening as the first 8 months. The success of your HT can only be determined after 18 months especially if you are a slow grower.
Patience is the toughest part of the HT procedure but one of the most important ones. If you are not ready to wait a full year+ for your result, then you are not ready for a procedure.

| True. HT is not magic, but if performed by the right clinic, full expected results will be achieved 12-18 months after procedure. But at 5-6 months, big difference will show already

Patience is required for hair transplants. You will make yourself crazy trying to watch it grow everyday. My 1st procedure started to get thick in 3-4 months but my second one really almost took a year to really get thick. I think one of the reasons for this is I didnt use minoxidil obsessively the 2nd procedure until the last several months. The 1st time I did everything right except for putting stress on my scar.

| I agree 100%. I have read so many people that get discouraged after only 8 or 9 months of slow growth. It is imperative that people know that it takes patience and time to see full results. I never expected a full head of hair within a two months. I'm still looking forward to more growth 13 months after my procedure. Gabriel

| the controversy over opinions of members and professionals on the timeline of newly expected growth still remains. do new hair still grow from months 8+ ? Or do they actually just thicken up from there? hhmm....

I couldn't agree more. At times it can be very difficult to be patient but try to keep focused on the ultimate goal of reaching that 12-18 month mark. I started to see a difference in my hair at the 3-4 month mark after my procedure but everyone grows at different rates. I experienced significant changes at the 6-8 month mark in terms of density/growth rate and it was smooth sailing there after.

| Hey jaypass, I agree that everyone grows at different rates. I think it's impossible to give an exact time frame as to when you could expect full results. Everyone is different. I also think diet and health play a big part in it but that's just my opinion. Gabriel

I have to say that this is the most difficult part of the entire procedure, waiting for the results... You go in thinking that they surgery and the healing the few weeks afterwards is the big hurdle.. but later you realize that the waiting game is the hardest part of all. So just make sure you relax and quit second guessing yourself, your results will come, it just takes time...

| Just a question to anyone who may know. After a period of time from the procedure, is it ok to wear concealers such as Toppik or does this actually harm the growth process? I'm not saying immediately after the transplant...but let's say 6 - 8 weeks or so.

If you are spending thousands of dollars on your procedure you do not want to ruin the growth by smearing concealers into the grafts. Be careful!

| Hi Drxan...I see that you've had both FUSS and FUE. By having the FUE procedure, does it expose your strip scar since the donour area is a little thinner now?

The moderator has an excellent point. Patience is the key factor in a hair transplant. It was very difficult for me after my procedure. I used to check every month what kind of progress I was making. Jay was right. At months 6-8 is when you will see significant visible changes. After that you will see more growth and density every month. This december it will be 2 years post op for me, and I am still seeing growth and density improvements. The key thing to remember is that everybody grows at different rates.

I had very fast growth in months 4-6 but then it slowed down after that.. so it definately varies from person to person!

I saw the bulk of my growth in months 5 to 9, but there has definitely been more growth in the 12 months following that.
