Alopecia Areata (Sudden Unexplained Hair Loss)

If unexplained wide spread hair loss persists, medical treatment is a possibility in most cases. Various hair loss drugs have been discovered to counteract the type of hair loss diseases including various types of steroids, Rogaine, Propecia and various types of immunogens (drugs which interfere with the immune system).

The most common treatment that works most quickly is injection of steroids called Kenalog on a weekly or biweekly. The dosage and frequency is adjusted by the treating doctor. These patients do not need hair transplants and are less likely to be hair transplant candidates.

Sudden unexplained hair loss or Alopecia Areata is so dramatic in its effects that it often affects the mental state of its victims. Persons who get it often become very worried and upset.
